George Grimes

George Grimes brought his family to Texas to join Austin's 2nd Colony in 1826.
George was born in North Carolina ca. 1781, probably to Jacob Grimes and
Catherine Miller. Catherine's father, Frederick Miller, deeded land in Rowan
Co, NC to his grandchildren, including our George Grimes. He was in Sumner Co
TN by 26 Nov 1804, and it was probably there that he met and married Eurydice
Gardner, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Gardner.
He continues to be listed on the Sumner Co tax list in 1811, and purchased
land in Stewart Co moved there, selling it in 1819. They are listed in
Austin's Colony in Jan 1827 and remained there until their death. Although
the graves are no longer marked, we believe they are buried near Nelsonville,
in Austin Co.

After Eurydice's death, her father John Gardner made a will in 1842 in Stewart
County TN naming her heirs.

Through a series of court records we see the controversy between George and
his children, especially the eldest son, Fred, regarding this inheritance.
