The cemetery is located in the Lawhon Springs Community of Lee County.   Take FM 696 west from Lexington for 12.3 miles and turn right on FM 619 for 3/4 miles to cemetery on the left on top of the hill.

This community was first known as the Sam Smith Community and the large springs located here were called the Sam Smith Springs.   The Lawhon family moved here and the name changed to Lawhon Springs and is now known as Lawhon Springs Community.

In 1851 at the time of the first grave in this cemetery it was located in Bastrop County, but later was cut  into Burleson County.   The county line was moved again after a while and it was again in Bastrop County.  In 1874 when Lee County was formed, it was taken into Lee County.
