This past , long time Conroe barber and local Conroe historian, Bob Shepard died. Bob was a very proud son of our City and loved to share stories of the people he knew and the events in the town that he experienced over his 80+ years. I learned a lot about Conroe’s history while visiting his shop and I personally feel his loss.
Bob cut the hair of generations of men and boys in his small barbershop on Simonton Street, and he leaves many good friends. He was very proud that his barbershop was the first to be recognized with a Montgomery County historical marker in 2014, and he was extremely proud that the 1912 building has been designated as the oldest operating barbershop in Texas (and one of the very oldest in the country).
Recently, the City honored Bob by naming the alley next to his shop as “Shepard’s Alley.”
Viewing is this evening at Cashner’s Funeral Home in Conroe, and the funeral is tomorrow at at Cashner’s. (May 11, 2016)
