Catherine Cook
Obituary

Cathy was born in Houston, Texas on December 16, 1964 and passed away peacefully at her home in Conroe, Texas on July 1, 2014 after a 2 year battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

Cathy was a member of the Conroe Art League and was involved in the re-vitalization of downtown Conroe. As part of her commitment, she opened her own art gallery, "Gallery Off The Square" downtown featuring Thomas Kinkade artwork and other local artists... Though Cathy loved to dabble in art and paint herself, her real talent was in selling it.

Her commitment to the community included the sponsorship of a "Paint In" in 2010 where children painted pictures that were auctioned off to raise money to purchase phone cards for our US troops. Her gallery has also sponsored such events as Children's Pumpkin Carving Contests and has been actively involved in the "Chalk-Up Conroe" project for the last three years with proceeds benefitting "The Rose"' a breast cancer organization for women without insurance to get mammogram screenings and diagnostic services.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, J.E. Sheffield, grandparents Doris and Norbert Mai and Jim and Ana Sheffield and great-nephew Jacob Brown. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Cook, her mother, Ruby Sheffield, her siblings Becky Rowley, Lisa Court, Billy Varley, Scott Sheffield and Paula Brunner; her Aunt Dyana and Uncle James Booker and Uncle Norbert Mai. She has 4 cousins Valerie Graves, Michael Booker, Mary Ellen Mai and Emily Mai; nieces and nephews are as follows: Kelley Brown, Tony Rowley, Jennifer Bone, Billy Ray Steelman, William Varley III, Kathryn Varley and Jarod Peavy.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 6th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Metcalf Funeral Directors in Conroe, Texas. Funeral service will be Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Metcalf Chapel with Pastor David Green officiating.

A reception will be held at Gallery Off The Square immediately following the service.

The family ask that donations be made in lieu of flowers to "The Rose" @ www.the-rose.org or to IBC Clinic in the Nellie B. Conally Breast Center located at MD Anderson.
