Mary Emma Niederhofer Davis Harrowing

 

Funeral Services for Mary Emma Niederhofer Davis Harrowing will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at the Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304, with Rev. Cynthia Henson officiating. Interment will follow at the Blackjack Cemetery in Walker County, Texas. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Metcalf Funeral Home. Mary was born Sept. 7, 1913 in Walker County, Texas and passed away peacefully in her home on Dec. 11, 2006, after a long illness. She was a life long educator, graduating from Sam Houston State University and The University of Houston. Her career included teaching at schools in Harris, Montgomery and Walker Counties both before and after her official retirement. Her commitment to education extended to membership in The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She was active in the founding of TRTA chapters in Montgomery County. Mary enjoyed traveling and worked as a travel agent to facilitate her world wide travels with family, friends and students. She had a commitment to her community which manifested in volunteer work in numerous areas and membership in The Order of the Eastern Star and The United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was preceded in death by her parents', Maude Ellisor Niederhofer and John Henry Niederhofer Sr.; brothers', Althen, Archy, August (Gus), Karl, and John Henry, Jr.; a sister Nora; husbands', Woodrow I. (Woody) Davis and Frank T. Harrowing; and son-in-law, Billy Hoy Glaze.  She will be sorely missed.
